Give school districts the flexibility they need in determining how to start school on Aug 17
Please urge your Senators to press the Senate leadership for a vote on SB374 allowing school districts to start virtual learning on Aug. 17, the same day as schools have been mandated to begin classes. It is expected that the last day possible for a vote on corrective legislation will be Saturday, July 11.
It is important that this legislation, which corrects the conflicting language of two bills (SB704 and SB113), removes the prohibition of virtual learning the first week of school. The prohibition must be lifted so that local school districts can operate safely and smoothly in line with the educational choices each district makes.
Two proposals have been made to correct the conflicting language. It is imperative that the Senate leadership understand that this situation, if not resolved, creates a major problem for school districts all over the state as the local districts prepare plans for operation and for the safety of staff and students.
