Best Practices for the Yard  A panel of experts will cover steps individuals can take to create sustainable yards that support the local ecosystem and fight climate change. Local experts, including an arborist and a Summit Metro Parks naturalist, will share sustainable yard practices such as using native plants and trees, avoiding fertilizers and pesticides, and using electric equipment.

The panelists for the roundtable include:

  • Janean Curfman, Summit Metro Parks Naturalist
  • Curt Van Blarcum, former City of Hudson Arborist
  • Mike Veney, Director of Environmental Programs for Davey Tree

After hearing from the panelists, an open Q&A will give you the chance to ask everything you've ever wanted to know about your lawn.

Those attending should enter the high school entrance with a pagoda on Stow Rd —the doors nearest to the auditorium.  A LWV sign will be outside the entrance and once inside, volunteers will direct them to the Media Center. An elevator will also be available.

Future roundtable topics will include transportation, food, and health. The previous sessions in 2023 gave participants the opportunity to share concerns about climate threats they were experiencing locally, hear from speakers from nearby cities about their cities’ sustainability efforts, and learn about climate change initiatives going on in Hudson. The Hudson League of Women Voters has also urged the City of Hudson to conduct a Greenhouse Gas Emissions study to determine a baseline for measuring Hudson’s emissions.
