Tell Your Senators to Vote NO on the SAVE Act

Girls want to have fundamental rights

Tell Your Senators to vote NO on the Save Act! It will create barriers to voting for millions of people. The SAVE Act would require a passport or a birth certificate that matches your current name, in person, to register to vote or to update your voter registration for any reason. It's aimed at preventing noncitizens from voting — something which is already illegal and rare.  Many people do not have passports or easy access to these documents.

  • 84% of women change their names after they marry
  • 46 million Americans do not have a passport -\
  • 2.3 million do not have an accessible birth certificate
  • 3.8 million do not have a birth certificate

Any time a person moves, they would need to update their voter information in person (no longer on-line) thereby creating additional challenges for all voters but particularly working-class Americans, older voters, women who have changed their last name and those who have lost essential documents due to natural disasters. The Save Act would end online, mail-in voter registration and voter registration drives. The barriers it would create would especially hurt women, immigrants, kids in foster care, all first-time voters as well as overseas voters.

The bill, titled the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or the SAVE Act, does not safeguard voting, it suppresses voting. Will you call Senator Moreno (202) 224-2315 and Senator Husted (202) 224-3353 TODAY and tell them to vote NO on the SAVE ACT?

Suggested Script: "Hi. This is [Your first name] and I live in Ohio.  My zip code is _____. Please vote NO on the Save Act, which is an attempt to create barriers to voting for millions of Americans.  It requires voters registering or changing their registration to provide ID IN PERSON and will end online or mail-in voter registration.  It will create barriers for so many of your voters! Please don't suppress our vote."
