Topical Tuesday: Join Dr. David McClough, Professor of Economics at Ohio Northern University, for a presentation on environmental education 50 years since the publication of The Lorax. The Lorax is a children’s book written by Dr. Seuss and published in 1971. It chronicles the plight of the environment and the Lorax, the main character, who “speaks for trees” and confronts the
Once-ler, a business magnate who causes environmental destruction. The story is considered a fable concerning the danger of greed causing human destruction of the natural environment. It encourages activism and involvement in making the situation better. The Lorax states, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
The Lorax expresses Dr. Seuss’s views on climate change and pollution, teaching children how important it is to do our part to protect the environment. He said it was his favorite book. (Presented in partnership with Way Public Library.)
