Changing the Tone • Making an Impact

Are you tired of the tone of our political discussions?  Have you turned off the television because of the rants, rage and constant interruptions?  Or, have you given up on politics altogether because it’s become a war of extremes?

Welcome to Golden Rule 2020, a program of the non-partisan National Institute for Civil Discourse (NICD)!  It calls for dignity and respect in politics by applying the ‘golden rule’ principle of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.  By pledging online support of this simple principle, and doing our best to practice it in our own lives, individuals are empowered by joining with others to make a collective impact that cannot be ignored.

How do you sign up?  Right here at Take the Pledge.

What else can I do?  You can Take Action right here, guided by these simple, easy steps.

A little background:  The League of Women Voters is a Revive Civility partner – also an NICD program.  Following the workshop at the 2018 LWV Convention in Chicago, a Network of LWV/NICD Civilians was formed.  The Network has continued its collaboration - holding monthly conference calls, sharing resources and information about local League events and initiatives, and hosting special guests working in the field.  The Network has partnered with the NICD’s Golden Rule 2020 initiative to expand the faith-based initiative to include a broader, secular audience believing that the Golden Rule can apply to all citizens.  Around the country Leaguers are asking what can we do. Our Network is convinced that the positive actions suggested here will help answer the call. By taking these actions, we are adhering to League’s mission of strengthening democracy while helping to restore trust in government.

The need is great.  How can you do even more?  We’re so glad you asked!
