Calling all members! We're gathering for our annual meeting on Sunday afternoon, May 21st at Calvary Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston. This year's theme is Defending Democracy, Defending Truth. We need a quorum of members present to vote on our issue priorities, budget, and Board of Directors, but this meeting is so much more

We'll hear from two guest speakers, Katherine Freligh and Heidi Benton, local teacher librarians and members of SC's Freedom to Read Coalition, who'll discuss school libraries and the targeting of books and libraries in Charleston County and beyond. Katherine Freligh (left, above) is Teacher Librarian at Mary Ford Early Learning and Family Center and President of Charleston County Association of School Librarians. Heidi Benton (right, above) is Teacher Librarian at James B. Edwards Elementary School and the 2021 recipient of the Defense of Intellectual Freedom Award from the South Carolina Association of School Librarians. Both are members of the Freedom to Read SC Coalition.

We'll also announce the 2023 Spirit of Democracy award winner!

Light refreshments will be provided. Please bring your own cup or water bottle to reduce waste.

Location and parking:  Calvary Episcopal Church is at 106 Line Street.  For off-street parking, take Ashe Street off of Line.  It curves around behind the church. Parking will be available on the grass as well as in the parking spaces behind the building. (The gravel spaces are reserved).
