We believe that protecting the Lowcountry's ecosystems is essential, and that our government should have a major role in setting standards for environmental protection and pollution control. We work to improve citizen education, public awareness, municipal transparency, and local advocacy on issues such as water quality, climate change, and responsible land use management. We seek to leverage and accelerate our work with local environmental organizations, focusing our efforts on areas where we see opportunities to create or defend a healthy and sustainable environment on behalf of all species, including the health of our own.
The Environmental Studies committee is led by Judith Kramer, and actively covers a number of topics in our tricounty area. The committee regularly hosts educational field trips for LWVCA members; recent outings have included naturalist-led tours at Caw Caw Interpretive Center, Nemours Wildlife, and Botany Bay Heritage Preserve. Please vote [at] lwvcharleston.org (send us an email) if you would like to join the committee!
