The League of Women Voters of Vermont is partnering with the Vermont Workers' Center in their Healthcare is a Human Right Campaign.

In 1948, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which includes access to medical care and other basic civil, political, economic and social rights which are seen as the foundation of freedom and democracy.

The VWC project aims to change what is "politically possible" in the health care debate through grass roots organizing and a strategic reframing of health care as a basic human right. While the long-term goal is a universal, single-payer health care system, the focus in the immediate period is not on policy, but on educating, organizing and mobilizing the broad working class around the demand that health care is a human right.
