The 7th Biennial League of Women Voters-Whitewater Area Garage Sale (August 12 and 13, 2022) was a lively success.
Perhaps the excitement was due to the loosening of Covid restrictions and it was the joy of seeing each other again in person after three years. Perhaps it was that Friday and Saturday were pleasant low-humidity days. And perhaps, we know that we were all working for a worthy cause.
This was the second time the event was held on the property of Sue and Bill Chandler. We are indebted to their gracious hospitality in the days leading up to and throughout the sale. A special shout-out to Sue, Bill, and Sue’s sister Jean Campbell for all their amazing work behind the scenes.
It was the efforts of many that allowed the League to raise over $1,700 —- making this 2022 Garage Sale an unparalleled success.
Whether you donated sale items, tents, or tables, worked on sorting through and displaying the items, setting up and taking down tents, creating descriptive signs or directional signs, placing signs around town, creating ads and posters, setting up each morning and closing down each evening, and/or helping disperse the leftover items, your work was important.
Our debt of gratitude extends to the following: Deb Gamble, Mary Beth Byrne, Marion Burrows, Etty Wilberding, Jane Roberts, Jean Campbell, Anita Loch, Kristen Monday, Sue Chandler, Julia Ross, Ellen Penwell, Bill Chandler, Midge Gill, Barbara Bren, Sarah Linn, Ginny Coburn and the Coburn Company, Jerry Anich, Kathy Brimmer, Ginny Laurent, Michelle Whisner, and Anne and James Hartwick.
However, our work didn’t stop here. The unsold donated items found their way to other worthy causes: The Community Space, Whitewater; The First English Lutheran Church, Whitewater; Kentucky Flood Relief Efforts; Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota; Habitat for Humanity; First United Methodist Church Meal Program; and The Fort Atkinson Feed Your Soul Program.
A heartfelt thanks to all.
