Meet New Board Member Dwight Watson! By Kathy Brimmer, Membership Chairperson

Dwight Watson is a Professor of Education in the College of Education & Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.  He supervises early childhood, elementary, and middle school student teachers, and is currently the Coordinator of the Reading Licensure Program. Dr. Watson is the former chancellor of the UW-Whitewater.  

 

The League of Women Voters Whitewater Area was introduced to Dwight on February 15, 2020, when he accepted our invitation to our Centennial Tea Celebration commemorating the founding of the National League of Women Voters. He has since been an advocate for the League by donating to our cause, sponsoring student members, and co-chairing our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and Book Club. Dwight joined the League board in May of this year. 

 

Prior to coming to UW-Whitewater, Dwight was the Provost and Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota; the Dean of the College of Education at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Director of Elementary Programs Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina. He also taught for 15 years at both the elementary and middle grades levels in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Minnesota.

  

Dr. Watson received his B.A. and M.Ed. in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina in Columbia and his Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction, concentrating on reading and writing literacy, from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.  His research interests include curriculum integration, children’s literature, and multicultural education.
