The League of Women Voters of Monterey County will present a free talk titled: "Planning for Affordable Housing in Monterey County and Cities: Timing, Priorities and Possibilities" at an in-person "Lunch and Learn" Meeting on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.

The State and Regional Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (AMBAG) has issued new requirements through the Regional Housing Needs Allocation Numbers (RHNA, or “reena”). All jurisdictions will have to designate zoning for affordable housing by the end of 2023.

Our speaker is Michael DeLapa, Executive Director of Landwatch Monterey County.  He will describe the law, the status in the cities and county, and discuss his perspective on the priorities and possibilities of RHNA.  DeLapa was the leading founder of Landwatch in 1997 with goals to promote land conservation, housing equity, and sustainable, climate-friendly growth. Michael has been Executive Director since 2016. Previously, from 1997-2009 he served on the LandWatch Board of Directors.
