Free Book - Racism in America: A Reader

By: Charlotte Pirch

While most of us were figuring out how to work at home, teach our kids what they should have been learning at school, getting acquainted with this thing called 'Zoom' to keep in touch with family and friends, and worrying about getting a rampant virus that was killing the global population, the people at Harvard University Publishing (HUP) were following the news of demonstrations spreading around the country—and around the globe—to protest racism and police brutality, they decided to write a book. The book focuses primarily on anti-black racism, but also includes voices and stories from other racial perspectives: South Asian, Chinese American, Mexican American, Native American. This book is for students, teachers, and general readers who are curious as they are reading news headlines or social media, but want something with a bit more depth. This is the book.

The book is a compilation spanning just under 300 pages, it gathers some 20 essays excerpted from HUP-published books—in law, history, sociology, economics, philosophy, medicine, art, literature—that focus on racism. Plus it's FREE!! You can download a PDF or for your reader.
