Help LWVC Evaluate Legislation

If you are interested in how the League decides to support a bill in Sacramento, here is your opportunity to learn and contribute your knowledge and expertise.

The State League Housing/Homelessness Legislative Analysis team is expanding and encouraging local members to participate in this collaborative endeavor.  The team meets every 3-4 weeks, usually beginning in February.  Criteria has been developed to evaluate bills that have been ID as the most interesting.  Members often have additional information from Senators and/or lobbyists to add to available information.

Once the committee completes analysis, it is submitted to the LWVC Legislative review team for review and evaluation.  2-4 Housing/homelessness bills make it through the system each year.  Most analysis is completed at the State League level by August, as the Governor signs bills in September, so this is a short term commitment.

If you are interested, please contact Teri Neustaedter. Teri is the Chair of the Housing Legislative Committee and can provide additional information, samples of the analysis form, or answers to any questions you may have.

This really is an opportunity to learn more about how the legislative process works in California.
