Member's SpotlightMarilyn O'Brien - Active Member, Past President and Friend
Marilyn O’Brien, a long time and very active league member, passed away on October 12th from complications of a stroke.
She is remembered for her energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to making Democracy work – and for getting people to vote. Marilyn served in many positions first in the Capistrano Bay League including as President and later when it merged into the Coast League.
As a retired teacher, she was always passionate about public education. In recent years she took on many issues including the decommissioning of San Onofre, the passage of the Affordable Care Act, Clean Water, Redistricting, and Immigration. However her overarching focus was on encouraging people to vote. One of her ideas was to have t-shirts printed that said: “ Read – Think- Talk & > Vote”; many of us proudly wore these shirts, especially around election times.
Marilyn loved to read and discuss current events; thus she was an active member of the South OC League Book Club and Clip and Come (discussions).
Words cannot convey how much we will miss her!
