With a primary election this March, League volunteers have been busy facilitating candidate forums around our service area. After each forum, people come up to us to say how much they appreciate this Voter Service work; we respond, “Thank you—it’s what we do.” This is grass roots democracy in action!

As this Voter issue goes to press, we have done five candidate forums for contests in L.A. County (District Attorney), Pasadena (Council District 2), Monterey Park (City Council), and Monrovia (Mayor, City Council), with three more pending final arrangements. Heartfelt thanks to our wonderful LWV-PA members who have worked at the forums as moderators, question sorters, timekeepers, and question runners: Hester Bell, Pat Coulter, Toni Cavanaugh Johnson, Valerie Jones, Ruth Judkins, Dorothy Keane, Chris Olson, Denise Pummer, Cheryl Rose, Bonnie Skolnik, Michelle White, Margan Zajdowicz, and Thad Zajdowicz.

This group includes several first-time volunteers who all reported that it was a great experience, and they are looking forward to doing more candidate forums in the fall.
