The League of Women Voters of San Joaquin County supports the concept of a single publicly owned water agency for the Stockton Metropolitan Area.
Position In Brief: 

Support the concept of a single publicly owned water agency for the Stockton Metropolitan Area that can plan, develop and operate our water resources to the best interest of all citizens.

Position History: 

Adopted in 1974. Revised in 1976, 2011.

This concept would include:

  1. support of efforts to acquire and distribute a supplemental surface water supply to this area, and
  2. support of managed control of groundwater pumping.
  3. Support of measures to preserve water quality in the Delta.
National Position: 

Support measures to reduce pollution in order to protect surface water, groundwater and drinking water.

State Position: 

Support measures which promote the management and development of water resources in ways that are beneficial to the environment with emphasis on conservation and high standards of water quality that are appropriate for the intended use (adopted in 1959, updated in 1961, 1967, 1971, and 1979).
