In May of this year the U.S. Capitol Historical Society (USCHS) held a symposium to celebrate the centennial of Native American Suffrage. The Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 granted citizenship to all “Indians born within the territorial limits of the United States” and marked a pivotal moment in Native American history. Take a little time this weekend to celebrate the anniversary of the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848, the first women's rights convention in the U.S. The Declaration of Sentiments drafted there began with "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men and women are created equal." And look what they set loose!
