Supporters of At-Large Districts (ALD) are once again up against a dark money-backed disinformation campaign targeting Alachua County’s Black voters. On Friday, October 18th, we learned that the PAC responsible for spreading disinformation about local Black leaders and the NAACP to win the 2022 Single Member Districts referendum is back at it.
Black voters throughout the county were sent a deceptive mailer similar to the one sent in 2022. Like the 2022 version, it falsely claims the NAACP opposes ALDs in all instances. In reality, the local NAACP endorses ALDs for Alachua County. Notably, the campaign could not find one white voter who received the mailer.
Then, four more mailers landed in mailboxes last week. The most recent one even includes the same picture and out-of-context, misleading quote from County Commissioner Chuck Chestnut that fooled voters into giving away 4/5ths of their representation in 2022! The truth is Commissioner Chestnut endorses voting YES on At-Large Districts!
