Join the LWVAC family

The LWV of Alachua County has an active internship program for fall and spring semesters, but this summer, we are especially seeking student volunteers to help with specific projects and outreach efforts. There is potential for these to continue through the fall elections, as an official internship or additional volunteer service hours.

Urgent needs for Summer 2024 Student Volunteers

Over the summer months when formal internships are not available, we especially need help in the following areas:

Creating voter eduction training videos

LWVAC will be launching their VOTE411.org site in July and our most critical need is "training" or "how to" videos on how to use this website. Other videos needed include clips of people talking about voting or encouraging folks to vote, as well as additional "training" videos on how to register to vote, request Vote-by-Mail ballots, etc. These videos would be shared on our website and social media.

The time commitment can be as little as what's needed to create one video or as many videos as you can. We are looking for one or more detail-oriented, highly organized, self-starters who are creative and insightful with clear and concise verbal and written communication skills and basic experience in Canva, video editing, and graphic design.

Please contact the info [at] lwv-alachua.org (subject: Communications%20Volunteer) (LWVAC Communications Team), if you are able to help.

Assistance with League at the Library events

Duties can range from attending events to assist with voter registration (training required) and engage and educate voters to help with behind-the-scenes activities like helping to schedule library events and volunteers, and helping to track supply needs.

The time commitment is based on volunteer availability. We are looking for one or more outgoing individuals who enjoy organizing behind the scenes or interacting with the public and want to use their talents to help the League educate voters this summer. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and have their own transportation.

Reach out to vote [at] lwv-alachua.org (subject: League%20at%20Library%20Student%20Volunteer) (Voter Services) if this is of interest to you.

Ongoing Fall/Spring Internship Opportunities

Our formal interns serve approximately 10 hours a week over a semester, as required for their program and often include a specific project. The positions are unpaid but we are happy to document service for academic credit, practica, or volunteer service hours.

The purpose of the internship is to provide students and recent graduates with a heightened awareness of the importance of civic engagement, as well as some new skills for acting in the political arena. For instance, students will learn how to inform and motivate audiences, conduct information campaigns, learn about participation in voting processes, and learn how volunteer organizations operate through committee experiences with LWV.

Duties can include any combination of the tasks listed below:

  • Creating a system for organizing volunteers and tabling events
  • Tabling at community events
  • Registering and educating voters (training required)
  • Collecting petition signatures
  • Community activism
  • Attending and reporting on city and county commission meetings
  • Participating in any of LWVAC Committees to advance their program(s)
  • Creating content, especially video content, for social media and other outreach efforts

Positions are open until filled. Please contact us info [at] lwv-alachua.org (subject: Internship%20Inquiry) (by email) or call 352.448.5408 if you are interested in a possible internship with LWVAC. Interns and volunteers are important to our outreach and get out the vote (GOTV) programs.

  • At least 16 years of age
  • LWVAC member (free for students)
