The League of Women Voters of Florida is rallying members to get to Tallahassee on Thursday, Dec. 4 to the Florida House of Representatives for a show of opposition to a Redistricting Committee with plans to redraw legislative district lines.
The Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting meeting is from 1:30-3 p.m. in Reed Hall in the House of Representatives building, 400 S. Monroe St. LWV members are asked to wear League-related clothing, so elected officials recognize our group.
It is the League's position that redistricting is intended to reflect population changes captured in the U.S. Census, a process that occurs once every 10 years. Conducting it in between those periods breaks trust with communities and undermines the promise that every person’s voice matters equally.
When maps are redrawn for partisan gain, we lose our ability to hold leaders accountable.
