Time Range For Action Alert:
March 7, 2019 to March 27, 2019

After a year-long study and concurrence among the local leagues, the LWVMD board was able to adopt the following position regarding Death With Dignity on Monday, 3/4/2019:

  1. The League of Women Voters of Maryland believes state laws should grant the option for a terminally ill person to request medical assistance from a relevant, licensed physician to end one’s own life.
  2. The League of Women Voters of Maryland believes such legislation should include safeguards against abuse for the dying and/or medical personnel.

As you may know, the House passed HB399: End-of-Life Option Act (Richard E. Israel and Roger “Pip” Moyer Act) on March 7th.

This week, the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee is expected to vote on the companion bill, SB311: End-of-Life Option Act (Richard E. Israel and Roger “Pip” Moyer Act). If the bill passes out of the Committee it will be up for a vote by the full Senate very soon afterwards. Your help is urgently needed to get the bill out of Committee and passed by the Senate.

Your Senator needs to hear from you!  It does make a difference.

Please contact Senator Young (District 3) or Hough (District 4) ASAP (via email, phone call, or visit). Share your personal story with them. Tell them that you support SB311 and urge them to vote in favor of it! (Sen. Young is a co-sponsor.)

You may find this link from the Frederick County Board of Elections to be helpful; it includes a map of election districts.
