In 2023, the LWV Amherst proposed forming committees for the LWVUS to take a formal position on the issue of reparations through study and eventually consensus. A series of meetings is under way in Massachusetts. The Falmouth League is planning such a meeting on Thursday, January 23, from 2 p.m. to 3:30; it will be sponsored by the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging committee. This members-only meeting will be held in the Hermann Room at the main branch of the Falmouth Public Library.
Reparations for slavery have been considered for over 150 years; some reparations have been paid to Native American tribes for seizure of their lands and to Japanese Americans who were interned in camps during World War II. We hope to see you at the January 23 meeting.
