March is Women's History Month    It started in 1978 as a Women's History Week in Santa Rosa, California. The movement spread and in 1980 President Carter designated a Women's Week.  But a week is hardly long enough to celebrate women throughout history and in 1987 Congress passed Public Law 100-9, designating March as “Women’s History Month.”

The National Women's History Alliance selects each year's theme. The 2021 theme continues 2020's "Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to be Silenced," extending the centennial of the 19th Amendment. Watch our Facebook page for posts celebrating women in history!
