According to the Secretary of State’s office, over 6,000 Michigan citizens have applied to be on the ICRC. Of the 3,600 applications that have been processed, 85% of the applicants are white; 60% are male; 43% are over 65 years old and the majority are from Southeastern Michigan. For years, the League has been telling voters that Michigan needed an Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission. Now that we have a Commission, we need to apply.

No, you don’t need to know how to draw the maps. The Commission will hire experts to draw the maps. In order to be a good Commissioner, you need to be a good listener and able to collaborate with others.

The Secretary of State will provide training.

Go to RedistrictingMichigan.org for an application and to view the video with instructions on how to fill it out. If your application is incomplete, you will be contacted by the Secretary of State’s office.

The deadline is June 1, 2020
