August 26 is Women's Equality Day, a day to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, solidifying the right to vote for some American women.

However, this year LWVUS will not be celebrating. More than 100 years since women won the right to vote, women have fewer rights than they have had in decades. We call on our lawmakers to restore and protect the rights of women.

Verify ID

Michigan's voter ID law requires every voter to verify their identity. Most in-person voters provide a photo ID, but those without a photo ID may verify their identity by taking an oath and signing a simple form called an affidavit.

No time to register or vote on Election Day? No problem.

All city and township clerks must be open for at least eight hours this weekend (July 30-31) for voter registration and in-person absentee voting. To find a clerk's specific hours and location(s), voters can visit www.MI.gov/vote and click on "where are my clerk's offices".

A completed absentee ballot must be received by a voter's city or township clerk by 8 p.m. on Election Day (August 2) to be counted.
