We oppose all efforts and tactics that threaten our democracy and limit the ability of voters to exercise their right to vote. Michigan's election results have been certified, although not without controversy.
“The Board of State Canvassers’ job was simple: meet and certify the election results. As a result, despite attacks on the process, the voices of Michigan voters were heard ...,” said Christina Schlitt, president of the League of Women Voters of Michigan. “For over 100 years, the League has been working to empower voters to participate in our democracy. We applaud the Board’s decision to certify the election results because it reflects the will of the people. The voters did their duty by voting in record numbers in this election, and the Board completed its job as it should.”
The election is over; the results certified. It's time to move forward and ensure that future elections are secure and accessible for all voters.
You can take action by contacting the President elect and your representative and senators requesting they take immediate action to pass HR1 - For the People Act. This federal legislation, originally proposed in 2019, addresses voter access, election integrity, election security, political spending, and ethics for the three branches of government. Specifically, the bill expands voter registration and voting access and limits removing voters from voter rolls. The bill also provides for states to establish independent, nonpartisan redistricting commissions.
