Banned Books and the Solano League of Women Voters Meet
On MSNBC’s Ali Velshi Show, April 27, 2024, at 8:00 am Pacific

On Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 8:00 am Pacific Solano League members—local author, Alice Fried and longtime Solano County educator, Rami Muth—will join Ali Velshi on his MSNBC Saturday morning show to talk about how his podcast conversations with banned-book authors not only inform and impact personal growth and respect for humanity, but also sustain and protect democracy.

Empowering Voters and defending Democracy through education has been the mission of the League of Women Voters since its creation in 1920.  Each year the League of Women Voters in Solano County (LWVSC) accepts this challenge by offering programs and events that spread the League’s vision of a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the confidence, and most importantly, the knowledge to participate.

This year the Solano League (Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun City, Vacaville, and Vallejo) felt that residents should hear from each other about the importance of protecting the right to read and created Let’s Talk About Banned Books, a 3-week Zoom discussion series inspired by the "Velshi Banned Books Club" podcast series.

“Our discussions on the "Velshi Banned Book Club" podcasts bring people together as neighbors so we can learn with and from each other how the freedom to read is critical to the health and survival of American freedom and the democracy we cherish,” said Craig Paterson, LWVSC Banned Book Discussion Series Creator and Coordinator.
