LWV Charleston Area is teaming up with FABB (Families Against Book Bans, based in Beaufort), to provide an immersive two-part program at the library, featuring a banned book club discussion and an issues and advocacy presentation about FABB's work.
We will hold a book club-style discussion led by FABB Board Director Mary Foster, followed by a separate presentation about Families Against Book Bans, a grassroots advocacy group based in Beaufort SC with impact across the state. There will be time between the meetings to socialize and enjoy refreshments.
For those who attended LWV Charleston's July screening of Banned Together, this is a follow-up program (you'll recognize Mary Foster, FABB Board member and a leading statewide and national intellectual freedoms advocate who appeared in the film and led the talkback panel). For those who did not, join us to raise your awareness and learn more!
Books are on the ballot! Become informed about threats to intellectual freedom, SC book ban policies, and advocacy efforts in South Carolina and nationwide. LWV opposes book banning as a rights issue. SC is now the #1 state in terms of number of books currently pulled from public school shelves.
This event is free and open to the public. Advance RSVPS are appreciated. Walk-ins are welcome.
