The League of Women Voters of Mason County announced it has been awarded a grant funded by the League of Women Voters of Washington Education Fund to launch the Civic Storytelling Project, a new initiative created in partnership with the Washington Secretary of State's Rural Civic Engagement Program. The project seeks to strengthen civic education and inspire participation in local democracy through first-person narratives drawn from the experiences of the residents of Mason County and League members.

Launched in September 2025 with recorded stories from members about the political and personal path that led them to join the League, the grant will support the second part of the yearlong project beginning in 2026 that will focus on collecting stories from Mason County residents on their experiences engaging with local government in their everyday lives.

A special emphasis will be placed on reaching youth and community members who may not see themselves reflected in traditional civic outreach. Recorded narratives will become part of the Washington State Archives and may be selected for inclusion in civic education programming (with consent).
