LWVMC Highschool Program

LWVMC Highschool Program

Many young adults do not participate in our democratic system by voting. As of August 23, 2023, only 22.5% of 18 year olds in Franklin County were registered to vote. Data also indicates that only 21.6% of young Ohio voters ( ages 18 to 29) voted in 2022. LWV's mission is to increase participation among young adults in the electoral process by engaging, educating and empowering high school students become voters in 2024 and beyond. Divider

For the past 8 years, the League of Women Voters has has been welcomed into High School classrooms in Franklin County to talk with students about the importance of voting. Between February and May, 2024, we visited 16 local high schools for a total of 21 total school visits. We reached over 3000 students and engaged them in small group discussions about the importance of voting. Our one-hour curriculum (see topics below) is conducted by our trained team at each highschool. During this hour students experience the voting process, learn about the voting rights history and are guided through the voter registration process.  Divider
