There are about 700 local and 50 state Leagues across the U.S., all part of the League of Women Voters, along with the national organization, LWVUS. Each League operates independently but shares the same nonpartisan principles and focuses on advocacy, voter education, and community engagement in their regions.
The League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Columbus (LWVMC) works locally to support the US League of Women Voters (LWVUS) and the Ohio League of Women Voters (LWV Ohio).
LWVMC Governance
Board and Staff: Our president supports the board by providing leadership, coordinating efforts, and ensuring our volunteer groups stay focused on goals.
Our committees work to provide focused leadership and expert guidance in key areas like finance, governance, fundraising, and programming. By diving into the details, they support the board with well-informed recommendations, helping ensure thoughtful, strategic decisions.
They also offer meaningful ways for members and volunteers to get involved — often serving as a training ground for future board leaders and deepening overall engagement in our mission.
To be effective, our committees:
Work with defined goals and responsibilities
Meet regularly, using agendas and minutes to stay organized
Make recommendations, not decisions (unless authority is delegated)
Include a diverse mix of perspectives and skills
Through their work, our committees strengthen our organization and help us move forward with purpose and clarity.
