For over 100 years, the League of Women Voters has built its“good government”positions through deliberate study and coordinated action at the local, state, and national levels. While our priorities evolve to meet current needs and critical issues, we remain committed to our core purpose:making democracy work for all citizens.

The League maintains a set of governmental standards and policies that guide all our activities and advocacy. These positions are developed at the national, state, or local levels and fall under three main areas of public policy:

• Voting rights and elections
• Social policies, such as healthcare and immigration
• Environment and natural resources

To develop a position, League members engage in thorough, nonpartisan study — examining all sides of an issue, consulting diverse experts, reviewing the best available research, and weighing both short- and long-term impacts. Only after members reach consensus is a position adopted.

This grassroots process ensures that when the League takes action—whether lobbying Congress, the Ohio General Assembly, or local officials—we speak with one informed and unified voice.
