Speakers: Julianne Gale, Zephyr Elise and James Landreth: Co-founders of Mason County Climate Justice (MCCJ)
Topic: Community Forests Project
MCCJ is working on the purchase of 40 acres of old-growth forest in Grays Harbor County that is currently owned by Green Diamond resource Company. The acreage is on traditional Skokomish Tribal lands. They are hoping to purchase the land to preserve it for conservation and protection for perpetuity. Their intention is to establish a land trust that will protect the acreage and eventually put it back into management of the Skokomish Tribe, also known as a "land back" transaction.
