LWV-PA Priorities for Education and Advocacy, 2023–2024

Recommended to Members for Approval on June 10, 2023

The following program priorities for education and advocacy were proposed by members attending the Program Planning Meeting of January 26, 2023, were recommended to the LWV-PA Board in February, were approved by the Board on March 9, and are herewith recommended to LWV-PA members by the Board for approval at the June 10 Annual Meeting:

  • Development of a Civic Academy to educate about democracy and voting, with emphasis on building an informed electorate.
  • Climate action in our cities.
  • Advocacy for diversity, equity, and inclusion, including a recommendation for “land acknowledgments” that recognize the original Native American/Indigenous inhabitants of our area.
  • Promotion of citizen redistricting commissions in our service area.
  • Policing practices reform.
  • Community outreach, including outreach to students and school groups.
  • Homelessness and food insecurity mitigation (new area).
  • Gun violence prevention (new area).
