St. Louis City and County Voting

St. Louis City and County Voting

Close-to-home elections affect your life the most. Elections help determine the level of school funding, public safety, affordable housing, and public transportation that we enjoy.

Local elections can decide whether the potholes on the streets in your neighborhood get fixed, whether your school district has enough money, whether your neighborhood gets the resources it needs.

Not many people vote in local elections, so every vote counts even more! Municipal and county elections  are your chance to be heard and choose your new government representatives or school board members. Many area voters will see ballot measure proposals on their November 5 ballot. On this page you will see some special considerations for St. Louis City and St. Louis County voters.

ST. LOUIS CITY VOTERS

St. Louis City now has 14 wards (down from 28).  See the detailed map of new ward boundaries that went into effect in 2022.

VOTE in-person on Election Day. Or, you can vote absentee by mail or in person starting six weeks before Election Day.  Do not let a disability keep you from voting. There are in-person voting aids for people with disabilities.

You can get more information  on City absentee voting here or by calling the St. Louis City Absentee Department at (314) 622-3230 Monday-Friday during business hours. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is the second Wednesday before each election.

On Election Day, you can vote at any polling place in the St. Louis City!  They will print you a personalized ballot.  Check out the locations for St. Louis City voting, both during the two weeks of no-excuse in-person absentee voting and also on election day.

Approval Voting in St. Louis City Primary

Candidates for Mayor, Comptroller, President of the Board of Aldermen, and Aldermen now need broad support from voters to win office. The two top vote-getters in the March primary will be on the ballot for the April general election. The approval voting method decreases the influence of big money by allowing voters to support grassroots candidates who have less money without worrying about "splitting the vote" or "spoiling" the election.

St. Louis County Voters

On Election Day, you can now vote at any polling place in St. Louis County. The polling place will print your specific ballot. Find available polling places.  On Election Day, that website will provide you with the number of people waiting to vote at a specific location you select.

Satellite voting locations around the county are available for no-excuse in-person absentee voting during a two week period before election day.  St. Louis County provides a detailed explanation of everything you need to know about St. Louis County absentee voting options.

League services make it easy to learn more about the candidates and issues on your ballot! The Voters Guide that the League prepares includes candidate responses to our questionnaire and our summaries of ballot propositions. It appears in the Sunday Post-Dispatch about two weeks before the election, and print copies are also available at selected sites around our service area. In addition, the same information is presented online on the U.S. League's vote411 website, where you input your address and see the personalized candidates and ballot issues that you will have an opportunity to vote on. You also may see opportunities to attend or view online candidate forums that we are invited by local sponsors to conduct. You also might encounter a League Speakers Bureau presentation where you can learn more about voting and issues.
