Americans have a superpower: voting. Democracy’s most constructive mechanism for self-improvement, voting is every citizen’s right, privilege, and civic duty. So how can we make sure we vote safely during COVID-19 in Connecticut? Register for this hour-long virtual discussion with Connecticut Secretary of State Denise Merrill to find out more.

Position

While this November’s ballot will not contain any initiatives, it will include one referendum, Ref. 90. This referendum will ask voters to approve or reject ESSB 5395 (Comprehensive Sexual Health Education), which passed the legislature and was signed by Governor Jay Inslee in March 2020. The LWVWA recommends a vote to approve ESSB 5395 on the ballot.

Position

The LWV of Washington recently signed on to a letter to the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) requesting that the U.S. Navy reduce the threat to southern resident orcas during weapon system testing and training proposed in this orca habitat. Orcas are the largest dolphin species, and the southern residents live along the Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia coasts.
