The League of Women Voters of the United States encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

The League is proud to be nonpartisan, neither supporting nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government, but always working on vital issues of concern to members and the public.

The League of Women Voters of Utica-Rome Metro Area serves the people of Utica, Rome, Herkimer and the surrounding areas of Upstate NY.

Our Annual Membership Meeting was held Saturday, May 16th. Elections were held and the new budget was approved. The discussion centered upon Engaging Young Voters. One of the two current SIA students attended our meeting plus last year’s attendee and an SIA winner from several years ago.

The League of Women Voters of Colorado and two individual voters filed a federal lawsuit against HB 25-1315, a state law passed in May 2025 that provides for one-party elections to fill state legislative vacancies in certain circumstances.

NYSUT stresses the importance of Civics and Media Literacy education for students in their March/April magazine.

NYSUT is asking the state Legislature to commit $2.5 million to expand civics education at the elementary level, $5 million to increase access to the Seal of Civic Readiness, and $15 million to enhance media and AI literacy so students have the skills they need to analyze information and judge for themselves what to trust, share, and base decisions on.

Short videos that our members made that will assist new or interested citizens in navigating the voting process, from obtaining a registration form, early voting and including voting absentee. 

On May 4, 2021 the governor signed legislation that allows anyone on parole to vote in all elections. The final video is addressed to all parolees.
