One of the LWV St. Lawrence County’s members, Donna Seymour, does a local public interest video show called North Country Matters. North Country Matters host Donna Seymour talks with Erica Smitka, Executive Director, LWVNYS, about the League response to the political events of 2025 and ways for grassroots advocacy to combat threats to democracy. On April 17, the League declared the United States was in a “Constitutional Crisis” based on federal action taken by the Trump Administration. The League’s Unite & Rise 8.5 Campaign is designed to empower people to resist these threats and motivate and educate 8.5 million new voters to turn out. The NYS League has also instituted a Democracy Defenders webinar series for civil engagement, among other actions.

The League of Women Voters of the United States condemns the recent threats made against Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), which forced campuses into lockdown and spread fear among students, faculty, and staff.

The South Carolina Supreme Court has dismissed a legal case brought by the League of Women Voters of South Carolina that challenged the practice of partisan gerrymandering.

The League of Women Voters urges all states undertaking mid-cycle redistricting to adhere to transparent, nonpartisan standards that protect voters and communities. Redistricting is a cornerstone of representative democracy.

Short videos that our members made that will assist new or interested citizens in navigating the voting process, from obtaining a registration form, early voting and including voting absentee. 

On May 4, 2021 the governor signed legislation that allows anyone on parole to vote in all elections. The final video is addressed to all parolees.
