LWV members are invited to take part in a protest on the water in Ocean City, MD, this Friday, Aug. 20, against the Covanta incinerator in Chester.
Ocean City sends all of its solid waste to Covanta, so the Assateague Coastal Trust is hosting Chester Residents Concerned for Quality Living as part of their annual "Float for the Coast" event where they protest on the water outside of the annual Maryland Association of Counties conference.
You are invited to join CRCQL to board boats or kayaks in the bay with local residents or protest on land at the Convention Center to take a stand and tell Ocean City this is NOT okay!
WHEN: Friday, August 20th, 11am-1pm
[We'll leave the Chester/Delco area around 8am to arrive by 11am. Main event starts around noon.]
WHERE: Roland Powell Convention Center, 4001 Coastal Hwy, Ocean City, MD 21842
WHO: Assateague Coastal Trust, Energy Justice Network, Chester Residents Concerned for Quality Living, Go Green Ocean City, Lower Eastern Shore Sierra Club, & Surfrider Foundation. LWV-CDC and Radnor LWV are supporting CRCQL in its efforts to call attention to the pollution caused by the Covanta plant.
CRCQL will coordinate carpooling once they know you're interested in coming. If you want to attend, you must be fully vaccinated and willing to wear a mask when appropriate.
If you want to hit the beach afterward, or even stay the night Thursday or Friday, let CRCQL know when you register and they’ll try to accommodate by coordinating carpool times. There is some limited space being offered to spend the night nearby.
