The Gainesville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc is thrilled to announce our upcoming Virtual Legislative Workshop entitled, "Know The Process." This workshop will provide a unique opportunity for participants to obtain a clearer understanding of several key areas in the legislative process. Representative Yvonne Hinson will lead the discussion focusing on how ideas are formulated into creating laws” and why citizens should know the process. Join us for a rare opportunity to discuss preemption laws. This legislative tool is utilized at higher levels of government to displace a lower government’s authority. Preemption laws affect home rule reducing local elected official’s ability to govern. The final session will outline how local community advocates developed best practices to organize and protect their community. This grassroots activism culminated in collaborating with Representative Hinson and Senator Gibson this past legislative session. They introduced and sponsored HB 1285/SB 1678 The Energy Equity Taskforce which was created to protect other marginalized against environmental racism, environmental democracy, and environmental injustices throughout the State of Florida.
