The League of Women Voters of Idaho, in collaboration with the American Association of University Women, is excited to announce a series of candidate forums designed to engage the community in the electoral process. The first forum will focus on candidates running for the Ada County Highway District Board of Commissioners District 2 and will take place on October 15, 2024, at 7 PM at Valley View Elementary School in Boise. This event provides a vital platform for candidates to present their visions and policies while encouraging voter participation and informed decision-making.
Following the District 2 forum, the League will host a second event on October 22, 2024, at Jefferson Elementary School, also at 7 PM, dedicated to candidates for the Ada County Highway District Board of Commissioners District 1. This forum aims to highlight the differences between the candidates, offering insights into their plans for local infrastructure and community development. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with candidates directly, ask questions, and learn more about the issues that matter most to their neighborhoods.
The series will culminate on October 24, 2024, with a forum for Ada County Commissioner candidates at Whittier Elementary School at 7 PM. This event will provide an essential platform for candidates to articulate their visions and priorities for the county, allowing voters to better understand their options. Community members are encouraged to attend and engage in meaningful discussions about the future of Ada County.
Each evening will conclude with a nonpartisan demonstration of ranked-choice voting, an important aspect of the proposed changes to Idaho’s general election system, which voters will decide on in the upcoming election. This demonstration aims to educate attendees about the ranked-choice voting process, enhancing their understanding of the proposed reforms. These forums represent a vital opportunity for citizens to become informed voters and actively participate in shaping their local government.
The forum is co-sponsored by the American Association of University Women and the League of Women Voters of Idaho. As nonpartisan organizations, the co-sponsors neither endorse nor oppose any candidate or political party or the proposed election systems change. Campaign materials and information about voting in Idaho will be available. Candidate profiles are available at Vote411.org, the League of Women Voters of Idaho’s voter guide.
