Dear League Members and Friends,
As we welcome the crisp air of autumn, I’m reminded of the importance of staying engaged and active in our communities, particularly as we approach another critical election season. It’s an exciting time for our League, as we continue to advance our mission to empower voters and defend democracy.
“Democracy is not a state. It is an act, and each generation must do its part.”— John Lewis, U.S. Congressman and Civil Rights Leader
TTThesse words of the late Congressman John Lewis resonate deeply with all of us at the League. Democracy requires constant effort. It is not a passive system; it demands our attention, our energy, and our collective voice. As we move through this critical time in our nation’s history, let’s remember that each of us plays an essential role in upholding and strengthening our democratic process.
League Highlights & Updates
1. Voter Registration Drive - A Success!
Our recent high school voter registration drive was a success. We pre-registered over 60 new voters in our local high schools. This drive afforded us the opportunity to share our Democracy Matters curriculum and to share with students the importance of voting and the responsibility it carries. Many thanks to our dedicated volunteers who gave their time and energy to this important initiative. Every new voter represents a voice in our democracy, and we’re proud to help make that possible.
2. Upcoming Informational Events
With the 2025 local election approaching on November 4th, the League will be providing short videos and virtual events that follow the outline of the Easy Voter Guide to provide important information about the upcoming special election. The League encourages everyone to use their voice in the upcoming election and VOTE! More information about these videos and events will be available shortly.
3. Advocacy on Local Issues
We are actively engaged in several key advocacy projects, including pushing for more accessible polling locations and advocating for better voter education programs in Solano County. Our work extends beyond elections to ensure that democracy is inclusive, fair, and transparent year-round. We are also sponsoring an event at the Rock Creek Winery on October 12th to highlight the issue of homelessness in Solano County and what we, as individuals, can do to address this critical issue. Please visit our website under the Members Only tab for details.
4. Volunteer Recognition
A special shout-out to our incredible volunteers! Your unwavering commitment to the League’s mission is what drives our success.
