You are invited to join The League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Columbus to honor Catherine Willis, community activist, educator, advocate for children and the arts, and founder of Urban Strings youth orchestra as we celebrate our 33rd year of Democracy In Action (DIA) on May 13, 6pm at the Boathouse, 679 W. Spring St., Columbus 43215.

DIA, the League’s highest honor, is given annually to an individual or organization that has made outstanding contributions to the civic life of Central Ohio. Catherine Willis is recognized for her lifetime dedication and commitment to education, the arts, and family advocacy in Columbus. A former Columbus City Schools teacher, her focus on youth led her to become an active volunteer, supporter and Board member of I Know I Can, a program that guarantees every Columbus City Schools student an opportunity to attend college.  Catherine is a longtime volunteer at the Martin Luther King Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. Her real legacy lives on through many children she has engaged and inspired. Catherine is also the founder of Urban Strings Columbus, a nonprofit organization that recruits and supports underserved, urban, African American and Minority Youth to become string musicians.

Catherine has selected two honorary co-chairs for the event: Larry James, Partner with Amundsen Davis Law Firm and Columbus Community Volunteer and Priscilla Tyson, Community Advocate for Columbus and former Columbus Councilwoman.
