The federal Election Assistance Commission is asking the public to submit comments on whether proof of citizenship should be required before people can register to vote or change their voter registration. Our league does NOT support this proposal, as millions of citizens who don't have the necessary identification will be blocked from voting. The stated reason for the change is that there is rampant illegal voting by immigrants; study after study has shown that this is not true.
