The League is part of a coalition of over 240 organizations united against Issue 1, the Vote No in August coalition. We are committed to this effort because we believe in majority rule; we are opposed to a minority of voters making decisions for Ohio.
If passed, Issue 1 would:
• Require signatures from all 88 counties (rather than 44) in order for Ohio voters to put an issue on the ballot.
• Remove the “cure” period of 10 days that is currently in place, meaning that if the effort is even one signature short, it would fail to get on the ballot.
• Require a 60% supermajority of voters to pass the issue (replacing the 50% + 1 simple majority currently in place).
Citizen-led ballot initiatives would become nearly impossible to put on the ballot and extremely difficult to pass if they are on the ballot.
August is prime vacation season and turnout is very low. What can you do?
1. VOTE! There are three ways to do so.
- go to your polling location on August 8 and cast your ballot.
- request an absentee ballot immediately. Return it as soon as it’s sent to you.
- vote early, in person, at the Butler County Board of Elections.
2. Talk to your friends and family members about the election to see if they have a plan for voting. This election will hinge on turnout – make sure people understand that every vote is critical in defeating this issue.
Don’t let your voice be taken away. Vote NO on Issue 1 on August 8!
