Federal Court Issues Ruling in LWV Challenge

Press Release, dated 04/24/25, from League of Women Voters United States (LWVUS)

Washington, DC — Today, a federal court judge issued a ruling in League of Women Voters et. al. v. Trump et. al., temporarily blocking the US Election Assistance Commission (EAC) from implementing a provision in the President’s executive order adding a requirement to show a passport or similar document proving citizenship when registering to vote via the federal form. While the case proceeds, this injunction preserves the status quo where would-be-voters already affirm under penalty of perjury that they are US citizens on the federal form.

"We [LWVO] wrote a letter to the Ohio Supreme Court in support of their upcoming Women in Law exhibit, featuring the majestic portrait of Maureen O'Connor, the first woman to serve as Cheif Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court.  But we think visitors shouldn't have to go to the basement to see representaions of women's leadership, so we shared some additional ideas.

"One man's historic ground floor is another woman's old basement.  Link to LWVO's letter is here."
