We are thrilled to announce that our Keynote speaker will be Professor Garrett Epps, returning after keynoting our 2015 LWVOR Convention. Professor Epps has taught Constitutional Law for 16 years, returning this fall to UO. He is the Washington Monthly Legal Affairs Editor, after 10 years as The Atlantic Supreme Court Correspondent, analyzing SCOTUS evolving jurisprudence and constitutional issues. He’s written numerous books and for prominent law journals, including American Justice 2014: Nine Clashing Visions on the Supreme Court and American Epic: Reading the U.S. Constitution. Professor Epps received his LLM and JD from Duke University, an MA from Hollins College, and BA from Harvard. He also attended the Oct 2, 2021 Women’s March in DC. Wednesday, October 13 at 3 pm: Cheryl Graeve, Director of National Programs for the National Institute for Civil Discourse (NICD) at the University of Arizona, asks: "Do you hunger for our public life to be more grounded in understanding and respect?" Thursday, October 14 at 5 pm: Terry Busch from Braver Angels will talk about how to turn potentially heated conversations into something more positive. He will share what his experience has taught him to work in defusing heated rhetoric and broadening the perspectives of others. Register here.
Friday, October 15 at 5 pm: Katie Parker and Stacey Smith of the LWV of Oakland, CA will present "Using the Volunteer Development Cycle to Improve the Volunteer Experience". Come and learn how LWV Oakland is already building its capacity to recruit, engage, train, and retain volunteers through its year-old Volunteer Development Committee. Register here.
