Empowering Voters and Defending Democracy
by Nancy Murray, Carolyn Robb and Libby Medley, Leadership Team info [at] lwvclackamas.org
Our mission at the League of Women Voters has been clear for all of our 104 years of
existence. Our country has faced many perils to democracy and to the acceptance of others
throughout its history. We got through them, democracy prevailed, and we carried on.
The election is over, ballots are still being counted, and political ads have thankfully ended.
The Republicans found success nationally, Democrats did so in Oregon, and it looks like we
will have change in the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners races. Portland has a
new government structure. It’s a lot to take in.
“Thank you for making the world a better place.” This was the message attached to a recent
donation. Thank you to the donor for her appreciation for the work League members do, and
the democracy we support through our membership, time, efforts, study, advocacy, and vote.
