A Position is the official League opinion or viewpoint about an individual topic such as land use, education or civil rights.  These are adopted after a rigorous two-part process, Study and Consensus, is concluded on the topic.

  • Study:  a Study Committee is formed to research both sides of a topic and then discuss the pros and cons of it. Any given study, whether it be at the National, State, or Local level, is thorough & non-partisan in its pursuit of facts and details. The Study Committee then publishes the Official Study and issues consensus questions to the general membership.
  •  Consensus:  Each individual League then analyzes the Study provided by the committee, debates the pros & cons of it, and answers the consensus questions. The Study Committee then reviews the submissions from all the Leagues and forms a consensus statement that becomes the recommended position.  The recommended position is adopted or amended then adopted and becomes an official League position on that topic.
