Monday, October 25, 2021 - 6:00pm

The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania Equity Initiative is honored to present PLACE ACCESSIBILITY FIRST, Part 1 of 2.

October Is PA Disability Action Month. As League members and leaders in voter advocacy, what is our responsibility to the disability community? There are many definitions of accessibility. For our purposes, “accessibility” means the ability to access and benefit from civil society, including political and civic engagement, and education. A commitment to accessibility is being truly welcoming, advocating for full inclusion, and asking first how we can accommodate the needs of others.

Part I of this session will address:

  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) basics that apply to voting
  • Ensuring that your polling place is accessible, welcoming and Inclusive
  • Suggested Resources for voting accessibility

Our guest presenters will be:

  • Jamie C. Ray-Leonetti, Associate Director of Policy, Institute on Disabilities, Temple University, College of Education and Human Development
  • Vicki Landers, Founder & CEO, Disability Pride PA

This ZOOM program will be transcription and closed caption enabled. Please email equity [at] palwv.org if there are other accommodations we can make for you.

Register here for this program. Equity Initiative programs are held the 4th Monday of each month, 6-8 pm. Part 2 of this series will be held in Spring 2022. Watch for EI series announcements.

How do we provide not only physical access, but access to the same tools, services, online resources and facilities as non-disabled people? What steps may be taken by your League to be more accessible and inclusive?
